will host and inaugurate this year’s UN Conference of the Parties (COP24), possibly the single most important summit taking place in Poland in 2018. Between 3 – 14 December, the life of the city will be dominated by this prestigious event, which includes the 24. Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), 14. Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 14) and the Conference of Signatories to the Paris Agreement (CMA 1).
The number of delegates staying in Katowice during those days is estimated at 20 000, representing 190 countries.
Politics, business, science and NGOs will meet to discuss and negotiate climate change policies and address both shortand long-term climate challenges, at a time when environmental policies, international solidarity and collective
responsibility are assuming unprecedented importance.
For Katowice, COP24 represents a fantastic opportunity to not only demonstrate the city’s already-impressive portfolio of
complex, ambitious events hosted every year, but also a great potential to strengthen the city’s brand internationally on
multiple creative levels. Both the event’s geopolitical and media outreach count as the event’s most important strategic
promotion challenges and will attract massive interest from the international media community.
